1. The Week That Was

Season 2 got heavy this week.

Episode 12 was the warrant. Turning myself in at 5:30 in the morning. The $2,000 bond and my parents bailing me out, again. Then asking to move a court date so I could come up with the restitution money, the date not moving, and the same judge upping my bond to $100,000. Sheldon in a cold car in a Michigan winter.

Episode 13 was the sentence. Three hundred and some odd days. No probation, no prison. And the strangest part: my head was quiet.

Episode 14 was the kitchen. The beard net. The handwashing. The walk-offs. And the decision to be the guy who works.

2. The Question Behind the Episodes

What do you do when doing the right thing doesn't get you the right outcome?

I turned myself in. I asked for more time for the right reason. I showed up. And I still ended up with a six-figure bond and a sentence.

The old me would have taken that as proof. See? It doesn't matter what you do. That's shame talking, and I know its voice well.

Guilt is doing something wrong and regretting it. Shame is feeling like a loser and wondering what I am even doing here.

Guilt said: you did things that put you here. There's restitution because there was something to make right. Serve the days. Get a job. Work the time down.

Shame said: third time, same judge, this is who you are.

The answer to the question turned out to be simple. You keep doing the right thing anyway. Not because it guarantees the outcome. Because it's the only version of you that can actually use the days.

The kitchen taught me the lesson I use in business every single day. Most people don't fail because the system is hard. They fail because the system is easy and they still won't do it.

The floor isn't complicated. It's just non-negotiable.

3. Three Things Worth Holding

If the consequences land on you, the follow-up belongs to you. "Don't worry about it" is not confirmation. Check it yourself.

Nobody is coming to fix it. People can stand behind you. Nobody can stand in for you. Accept the support, then go do the work.

Find your beard net. The small, simple thing you keep walking off is usually the one that matters most.

4. The Reset

What's actually happening in my life right now, while I tell you about 2025.

Q4 started Thursday. The quarter the whole year was pointing at. Battle Plan on the wall. Four quadrants. One question: what's the 10x version?

Tuesday was the operator's masterpiece. Eight client calls in one day. Every one fifteen minutes. Every one on point. The old me would have needed two days for that. The systems are working. Not perfectly, but working. That's what Q4 is built on. Not more hours. Better structure.

The media buyer handoff is real now. Intros made. Accounts shared. The lever-pulling is leaving my hands one account at a time. It's uncomfortable. I keep catching myself wanting to check things that aren't mine to check anymore. That discomfort is the sound of the architect winning.

The friend situation reached its ending. Not dramatically. Just with finality. He's got a path now. Shelter, ID, a plan. It's his walk. I gave what I could give without carrying what was never mine. Boundaries aren't cruelty. They're architecture.

Housing: an approval is in my pocket. The move is close. After two months of rejection after rejection, the yes came. I'll share the full story when the keys are in my hand. But I'll say this. Every no was just a comma.

Michigan is next. Flights booked. Court motions filed. After two years of distance, I'm getting on a plane to see my girls. I don't know how it goes. I know I'm going anyway.

Spartan is six days out. The knee is holding. Training is done. Race week is where discipline looks like restraint.

Sheldon still chases squirrels. Still goes after the Doberman. Still my training partner since February 2023. Every walk, every morning, every reset. There was a time he sat in a cold car in a Michigan winter because my life fell apart. He doesn't know that. He just knows we walk.

5. One Thing to Try

Set your floor.

Not your goal. Your floor. The thing that happens whether the week cooperates or not.

Here's mine for Week 8 of 47:

  • 25 touches

  • Daily walk with Sheldon

  • Daily workout, now with a taper plan for race week

  • Three podcasts

  • One newsletter

  • Monday morning protected slot for recording

  • Thursday stays closed

Q4 is open. The race is Saturday. The rebuild is now.

What's your floor this week?

One step, one day. Grace over guilt.
